I am pleased to announce that Mandelbrot & Co has finally
adopted the 16:9 format for its explorer. The 16: 9 format was already available for downloading images, but the
1:1 display did not allow the result to be previewed. It's finally fixed!
New features
This new release brings some important evolutions:
Layout: the general layout of the various elements is rethought with the arrival of the 16:9 format : the
navigation icons, the filters menu and the Julia's settings overlay the main view. The videos are now accessible
via the menu .
Auto/Manual main view size : Mandelbrot & Co intends to offer you a navigation throw the fractal sets as
smooth as possible . The 16:9 format is clearly more pleasant but also requires heavier calculations. Mandelbrot
& Co adjusts automatically the view to your screen, in case of performance issues you may want to downsize
the view. Use the new menu Parameters to do it.
Julia parameter: the parameter can now be entered or chosen directly from the points of the Mandelbrot set
with a real-time preview. Video explanations:
Animated PNG : Safari and Firefox don't support the encoding method used by Mandelbrot & Co for editing
Webm film. It's possible now, on both browsers, to save short films with the Animated PNG format. This format
is quite similar to Animated GIF. You can convert to mp4 with ffmpeg :
ffmpeg video.anpg video.mp4
drag and drop to reload : images edited with Mandelbrot & Co are now saved with metadatas. These metadatas
contains the coordinates of the image, so if you drag and drop the image on the main view, Mandelbrot can
"reload" the image so your exploration may go on.
pan view : click and hold the mouse to pan the view if you want to change the frame.
